Swagata holds a Post graduate diploma in Criminal Justice from IGNOU. Master of Arts from IGNOU and Bachelor of Arts from Ashutosh College, Calcutta University. 

Swagata brings a vast experience of over 15 years dedicated to addressing and mitigating issues related to human trafficking, human smuggling, migration, forced labor, and child protection.

Prior to joining MAP, she worked with various organisations i.e. Zee-Akash News, Channel 10, Sanlaap, Lutheran word Service India Trust, Justice and Care, Bachpan Bachao Andolan, Shakti Vahini, Indus Action and Athena Infonomics. She is a Hubert. H. Humphrey Fulbright fellow (2021-22) in Trafficking in Persons - Prevention and Policy. During her fellowship, she studied at American University, Washington College of Law & did her Professional Affiliation with the International Organization for Migration at Washington DC.

At MAP she has joined as a Project Consultant.
